About Me
Personal Profile
Miss Kgothatso Nhlengetwa obtained her BSc (Hons) in geology from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 2008. She started her career at AngloGold Ashanti in mining geology before leaving in 2011 to study social entrepreneurship at the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
In 2013, she delved into academia where her research focused on a comparative study of Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) in South Africa. She worked as an associate lecturer in the School of Geosciences at the University of the Witwatersrand from 2014 to 2017. During this time, she was a Canon Collins Scholarship recipient and won a master’s fellowship award from the Women in Science Awards by the Department of Science and Technology (2014). She has publications on various platforms, including scientific journals, online publications, and magazines.
She has worked with the South African government on policy development and is the founding director of Imbokodo Mining Services (Pty) Ltd, serving as an ASM consultant, researcher, and Special Advisor to the National Association of Artisanal Miners (NAAM). She works on the ground with artisanal miners, providing technical expertise, aiding in access to markets, funding, cooperative registration, and governance, as well as conducting research for development organizations. Additionally, she is a mentor and motivational speaker.
In 2023, Miss Nhlengetwa was a guest speaker at the prestigious Mining Indaba, where she shared her insights and experiences in the field of mining and social entrepreneurship.
These include geological services, mining methodology improvement, mining value chain improvement, cleaner production and extraction/beneficiation techniques improvement.
We advise on policy, engagement, funding, cooperative governance, access to markets and development of key solutions to illegal mining.
Imbokodo Mining Services ensures efficient, compliant, and sustainable ASM projects through strategic planning, resource management, and risk mitigation.
These services include training artisanal and small-scale miners in industry-specific skills, educating stakeholders on ASM, illegal mining, engagement strategies, and site-specific solutions. We also facilitate mediation workshops.
We bridge miners, government, NGOs, and civil society through training, mediation, and dialogue to promote responsible mining and sustainable development.
We conduct and implement research in the ASM sector, collaborating with miners, government, NGOs, civil society, development organizations, and academia. Our focus includes ASM, supply chains, responsible sourcing, policy, ESG, and indigenous knowledge systems.
